چکیده

Electron transport properties through single conjugated molecules sandwiched between two nonsuperconducting electrodes are studied by the use of Green’s function technique. Based on the tightbinding model, we do parametric calculations to characterize the electron transport through such molecular bridges. The electron transport properties are significantly influenced by (a) the existence of localizing groups in these conjugated molecules and (b) the molecule to electrode coupling strength, and, here we focus our results in these two aspects. Electron transport through single conjugated organic molecules: basis set effects in ab initio calculations.

We investigate electron transport through single conjugated molecules--including benzenedithiol, oligophenylene ethynylenes of different lengths, and a ferrocene-containing molecule sandwiched between two gold electrodes with different contact structures--by using a single-particle Green function method combined with density functional theory calculation. We focus on the effect of the basis set...

Quantum interference in acyclic systems: conductance of cross-conjugated molecules.

We calculate that significant quantum interference effects can be observed in elastic electron transport through acyclic molecules. Interference features are evident in the transmission characteristics calculated for cross-conjugated molecules; significantly, these effects dominate the experimentally observable conduction range. The unusual transport characteristics of these molecules are highl...

Thermally activated electron transport in single redox molecules.

We have studied electron transport through single redox molecules, perylene tetracarboxylic diimides, covalently bound to two gold electrodes via different linker groups, as a function of electrochemical gate voltage and temperature in different solvents. The conductance of these molecules is sensitive to the linker groups because of different electronic coupling strengths between the molecules...
